Hop-syn is a white, opaque synthetic paper constructed from polypropylene (PP) resin and calcium carbonate. Based on its unique construction, Hop-Syn can be made into multiple grades and gauge thicknesses (0.0031 – 0.032 gauge) by modifying its clay filled composition. This is accomplished by extruding Hop-Syn through a high speed, high precision calendaring process.

Based on its clay filled construction, all Hop-Syn grades offer a high dyne level and a micro-porous matte surface that makes it easy to print via UV offset, lithography, flexography, thermal transfer and UV inkjet without the need for any pre-treatment. In addition, Hop-Syn’s single layer construction allows it to easily fabricate through a wide variety of processes by die-cutting, scoring folding, drilling and sewing. This encompasses applications that need to stand up to water, grease, harsh chemicals and extreme temperatures and UV sunlight without tearing, distorting or changing color.

Based on its construction, Hop-Syn is stearate free and contains no heavy metals or harsh chemicals that are harmful to the environment. In addition, it uses very little water in its manufacturing process, which results in the preservation of Earth’s clean water resources. Therefore, all grades of Hop-Syn synthetic paper are recognized by CONEG, RoHS and REACH as an environmentally friendly plastic that is 100% recyclable.
