Hop Industries is pleased to announce that its recently released Hop-Syn GO grade is now suitable for all leading digital LED inkjet printers and LED offset presses. Initially designed exclusively for the HP Indigo digital press, Hop-Syn GO grade is now recommended for a broad range of wide and narrow format, digital UV inkjet and LED offset presses.
Customers can use Hop-Syn GO for a variety of durable applications which range from menus, ID cards, POP signs, retail tags, book covers, and much more. It’s the environmentally-friendly, cost effective alternative to inferior top-coated plastics and laminated paper substrates.
”We are broadening the market for Hop-Syn GO because it prints with great adhesion, definition and color resolution on the leading LED offset presses and wide format LED roll-fed printers. Our customers are delighted with the results,” comments Jack Smith, Senior Vice President, Hop Industries.
Hop-Syn GO’s proprietary top coating provides a scuff-resistant surface that delivers excellent ink adhesion with the highest color resolution. Made from a combination of polypropylene and calcium carbonate, Hop-Syn GO’s pre-treated surface has been shown to eliminate or reduce static by more than 25% compared to printing on 100% solid plastics, such as polystyrene and rigid PVC.
Hop-Syn GO’s thermally stable construction can withstand temperatures from -50F up to 220 without distortion. Its non-porous surface easily repels water, grease, oil and harsh chemicals, meeting the specific durability requirements widely expressed by digital print customers. Hop-Syn GO is an ideal replacement for pulp-paper applications where extreme tear resistance, weather resistance and lamination are required.
Hop-Syn GO is a white, opaque, smooth matte synthetic paper, available in .008 and .010 gauge thicknesses in standard stock sheets, including 12″ x 18″, 13″ x 19″, 20.5″ x 29.5″, 23.5” x 29.5”,
26” X 40” and in a 55″ master roll width.
Free samples of Hop-Syn GO are available upon request. For more information, contact Hop Industries at 800-524-0757 or visit www hopsyn.com.

Offset printing on plastics has numerous advantages, especially for applications that require durability with high impact. To ensure quality throughout the printing process, we created the latest tips guide to help press operators avoid common printing challenges.
For example, press operators may encounter challenges with ink drying or color sequence, which can impact the quality of output. Poor ink/water balance, or ink drying too slow can also have ramifications. The Hop-Syn offset printing guide is a helpful resource that addresses these challenges and more.
Start with the Right Substrate
Hop-Syn is one easiest synthetic papers to print on via offset, which is why many print service providers prefer it. It’s also one of the top substrates specified by big brands because of the high-quality output and environmentally-friendly properties.
Hop-Syn comes in multiple grades to suit every printing application such as P-O-P displays, banners, blockout and backlit signs, as well as hang tags, book covers, maps and more.
Hop-Syn experts are always available for advice about everything related to the durable substrate, such as grade selection, printing processes, finishing and fabricating, including die cutting, folding, drilling, and gluing.

Imagine the possibilities of using a reliably consistent synthetic paper to print 580 square feet an hour. At SGIA Expo, attendees saw it in action with Hop-Syn synthetic paper and the swissQprint Nyala LED printer. Consistency is one of its hallmarks of Hop-Syn synthetic paper, and it’s one of the top attributes that Rick Mitchell of swissQprint values in the substrate.
At SGIA Expo, Mitchell praises the consistency of Hop-Syn synthetic paper during a live demonstration using the Nyala LED wide format printer. Mitchell printed on Hop-Syn XT .010 gauge for attendees at the event.
In this video, John Risdon of Hop Industries, manufacturer of Hop-Syn synthetic paper, and Mitchell discuss the speed and high quality of the Nyala LED printer. Mitchell explains how Hop-Syn’s consistency enables them to print with very high accuracy and specific droplet placement. Consistency also makes it possible for print service providers to repeatedly produce high quality output at the fastest speeds possible.
Perfect High-Res Every Time
With a consistent substrate like Hop-Syn, Mitchell notes that his team can produce perfect, high resolution images, every time. Mitchell comments, “We get really high saturation of color.”
As Mitchell points out in the video, the swissQprint Nyala LED printer is very diverse, with a wide range of applications. swissQprint demonstrated Hop-Syn XT in tandem mode. “The beam never stops running, which maximizes productivity,” notes Mitchell.
In the demonstration, the Nyala LED printer is operating at mid-range speed, 580 square feet per hour. This setting, Mitchell notes, showcases the best quality and saturation of color, mixed with exceptional production speed. The Nyala is capable of running up to 2200 square feet per hour.

Demand for the Hop-Syn line of line of synthetic paper is at an all time high following exhibitions at three recent trade shows, Labelexpo Americas, PRINT 2018, and 2018 SGIA Expo.
At the events, Hop Industries featured its line of synthetic paper, and attendees received free samples of the environmentally-friendly substrate. Hop-Syn experts also spoke with attendees about Hop-Syn’s numerous applications, which range from in-mold labels, manuals and tape measures to banners, backlit and point of purchase displays.
“It’s an exciting time for Hop Industries as demand for our environmentally-friendly substrate continues to grow,” comments Jack Smith, Senior Vice President, Hop Industries. “With each Expo, we meet more and more companies that choose to print on Hop-Syn for applications that require durability. They value the consistency and quality results they get from each sheet and roll of Hop-Syn.”
Special Attractions at Expos
At PRINT 2018, Hop-Syn synthetic paper expert John Risdon spoke at the Elite RMGT LED UV user group. Risdon educated attendees of the unique manufacturing process that distinguishes Hop-Syn from other synthetic papers and shared the attributes that make Hop-Syn so well suited for LED UV inkjet printing.
At SGIA Expo, Hop-Syn was printed live at Electronics For Imaging Inc. (EFI) and swissQprint’s booths.

As the weather changes, so does the need to make adjustments in the press room. In this newest report, Jack Smith of Hop Industries provides helpful information to print service providers to avoid the challenges of static when printing on plastic, especially as the seasons change. The report also explains the differences between plastic substrates, and which ones are more prone to static. Call us at 800-524-0757 or visit us online to request a free copy of the report, “How to Stop Static When Printing on Plastic.”
The free report highlights the causes and effect of static in the pressroom, such as double feeding and slower drying, if left untreated. The report also provides a selection of useful anti-static tools.
“Our newest how-to report is a useful resource to help print service providers maintain optimal production conditions, especially as the weather changes,” comments Jack Smith, Senior Vice President of Hop Industries. “Choosing the right plastic substrate is also important, and Hop-Syn’s minimal static-causing properties makes it one of the easiest to print.”
Not all Plastics are Created Equal
In addition to learning new ways to reduce static in the press room, the how-to report also compares print production speeds of different plastics; Hop-Syn customers are able to produce an average of 15% to 20% more impressions than alternate plastics. Hop-Syn customers also experience less static than alternative plastics because of its uniform gauge thickness and unique clay-filled polypropylene construction, which makes the surface more absorbent for quick drying.
